Costas Fragogiannis, Greece’s Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, who is also responsible for the country’s economic diplomacy, visited the northern Greek island of Thassos on Wednesday along with a large delegation from the German automaker Volkswagen.
The two groups traveled to the scenic Macedonian island to examine the possibility of a major investment on behalf of Volkswagen, which will be focused on electromobility on the Greek islands.
The two sides will continue their discussions on Thursday in the port city of Kavala.
The final decision on the project will be taken in the future, following a careful study of the findings and consideration of all the advantages the island has to offer.
The visit was made as part of the Greek government’s plans to heavily promote electric-powered transportation in Greece, while for its part, the Volkswagen company is focusing its research on the island’s traffic needs and patterns.
